Artistic Director Digest

Hello Choir Fam,

Thank you all for a wonderful retreat and rehearsal this past week! I had such a great time, and I hope you did too. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Our first gig of the season is coming up on Thursday, October 2, with an estimated call time of 7:00pm. Please fill out the Gig Form to let us know whether or not you are available. Since this event is so early, we’ll be performing a mix of music from both last season and this season.

The performance will be at the University of St. Thomas for their annual fundraising dinner, where they’ll be honoring the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and welcoming the new Archbishop. We’ve been invited to perform for the occasion—what an honor!

Here’s our potential set list (subject to change depending on availability). We’ll meet at 5:30pm the Monday before to rehearse.:

  • Bridge Over Troubled Water

  • Somebody to Love

  • We Are Family

  • Why We Sing

  • Holding Out for a Hero

  • Back Home

  • Love Changes Everything

  • Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

This week’s rehearsal plan is listed under Rehearsal Details below.

Thank you for the music,

Jennifer

Y’all have amazed me. We are already 62% complete with dues, and of the remaining folks, a quarter of you are participating in the fundraiser. Thank you so much for making my job easier! For the people who remain, you have until September 3rd to pay your dues. If you need to establish a payment plan or need to talk things out, please let me know asap via Treasurer@HoustonShowChoir.org so that we can be on the same page of music. Y’all are the best, and I can already tell that this is going to be a fantastic season!

Shout Out to Music Packet Assembly Volunteers

Thank you so much to Joel, Brooke and Tambrey for assisting us in assembling all of the new season music packets. It was a very smooth process and we finished around 60 packets in an hour - amazing! We could not do it without you!

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or adjustments you may need to your music, etc...

Dream BIG with the Executive Directors!

Greetings, Choirmates!

Our first rehearsal this past Monday night set some records for sure: Thanks to your preparedness, the day-one check-in process was more efficient than ever! Only the handful of absent members remain to complete all the steps into full membership. Thanks to your talent and focus, we had a great head start on vocals and choreo for HSC numbers as well as HTS and TIP. And thanks to so many of you having been born as summertime babies, we had a record number of name vamps for our birthday serenade, accompanied by our incredible new pianist, Chloe!

Before we begin week two of HSC’s fall season, here are a few reminders. Please add these to your calendar as appropriate:

  • August 25: Second Rehearsal of the Fall 2025 Season! Remember to FIRST scan the attendance QR code! Then pick up your nametag, pick up your music (if you have not paid your dues), and find your seat within your section according to the riser chart.

    • If you missed last week: After you pick up your nametag, sign your membership agreement and health form, pay your dues, sign up for a personal fundraiser, pick up your music, and be seated with your section. We’ll be set up and ready to go by 5:45 PM, so please arrive early if you can so that we can start rehearsing at 6:30.

  • November 22: Holiday Cabaret at Ovations! (Optional participation.)

  • December 8, 10, and 12: MANDATORY Tech Week Rehearsals

  • December 13: SHOW DAY! Two performances, 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM @ Resurrection!

Now as usual, we have some reminders for you:

Have you SEEN the VIDEO of our Hobby Center performance of Heartbreaks & Heartbeats If not, why not? You DESERVE to see how fabulous you were in this show, and to be able to share it with your fans! This is also great marketing for our choir’s future ticket sales and member recruitment!  Expertly recorded and edited by the fabulous Tan Truong of West Side Recording Studios, this treasure can be yours for $30.00; just use the QR code below to purchase. We think you will be very pleased!

Our June 2026 trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida is in full swing. We are still accepting registrations, no upfront payment required. Remember that we need 40 singers on stage at Universal in order to perform on the mainstage, so please sign up! Here is the link to register:

  • If you have previously created an account with ETA, you may sign into your existing account to make a reservation and you will not need to create a new account.

  • Once you are into your account, select Add a New Trip, and then enter houston26.

  • You should see your trip details at that point, and then select Make a New Reservation and complete ALL fields.
