SPRING 2025 AUDITIONS
SPRING 2025 AUDITIONS
The Houston Show Choir vision is “to share the joy of music through performance, education, and service to communities within the Greater Houston area and beyond.” The choir performs choral arrangements in a variety of popular styles, including pop, rock, disco, jazz, and show tunes. Choreographed movement and staging are an integral part of performances, along with vibrant costumes and props.
Auditions for the Spring 2025 season will take place from January 13-25, with weekly rehearsals beginning the week of February 3rd at Resurrection MCC in Houston, TX. The season's main show will be on June 14, 2025, with additional performance opportunities in the Greater Houston area throughout the season. Singers are encouraged to participate in gigs and are required to attend the June end of season show and ALL tech rehearsals the week leading up to the show.
The Houston Show Choir Audition Process
The audition process involves an individual vocal audition as well as a group dance audition. During the sign-up process, candidates will be asked their availability for Houston Show Choir (HSC) and interest in placement into our smaller ensembles: H-Town Sound (HTS; mixed voice show choir), or Treble in Paradise (TIP; treble voice show choir). All singers must be in HSC, but ensemble placement is optional.
All candidates will be notified of their audition result and if applicable their ensemble placement(s) and voice part by January 26th. New members will be asked to attend a New Member Orientation on February 1st before starting rehearsals the week of February 3rd.
-
Candidates meet with the Artistic Director to ascertain vocal range, demonstrate sight-singing, discuss musical background, and sing approximately 30 seconds of your choice of song (unaccompanied, or using an accompaniment track link that you provide when you sign up). Memorizing the song is preferred, but not required.
H-Town Sound or Treble in Paradise- For singers who are interested in singing with H-Town Sound and/or Treble in Paradise, you will prepare and sing your preferred voice part on a piece we will be singing this season. Your preferred voice part will be muted for the audition but the other voice parts will be audible. Audition materials (including sheet music, practice track for voice parts, and practice tracks without preferred voice parts) will be provided by the artistic and/or executive directors prior to the week of auditions.
-
Candidates meet as a group to do choreographed movement at different levels of complexity. The first hour of the session covers basic level of choreographed movement that HSC uses, and the second, optional hour, will cover more advanced levels of choreography and will be required attendance for candidates who wish to be considered for one of the ensembles.
-
After the final dance audition session, the Artistic Team will determine the first round of audition results. Candidates selected to proceed will be notified of their rehearsal placement and/or ensemble invitation by Jan 26 and invited to a New Member Orientation on Feb 1.

Rehearsals for the spring season start the week of February 3rd.
