Please come to rehearsal in your show attire on Wednesday, June 10.
Also that day, we will have our annual State of the Choir business meeting, as part of our regular rehearsal. This is a requirement to maintain our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization status with the State of Texas. It will be relatively brief. Since this rehearsal is mandatory, so is your attendance at the SotC meeting.

Friday, June 12 is our Dress Rehearsal at The Hobby Center.
If you own a Houston Show Choir member jacket, please bring it.
Every member will need to check in with the Security Office, and your name on their list must match what is on your driver’s license. If you have not done so already, please write to VAN at exec@houstonshowchoir.org stating your full name exactly as it appears on your driver’s license. This is MANDATORY as we need to create a list of all cast and crew members, including the band, for Hobby Center security.
Parking in the Hobby Center garage is $20 per car, per day. There is also limited street parking nearby which becomes free after 6:00 PM. If you would like to save money by carpooling, free parking is available at Resurrection. If you’d like to take advantage of this, please send an email to VAN at exec@houstonshowchoir.org with your name and the year, make, model, color, and license plate number of your vehicle, so it can be shared with Resurrection. For example: David McGurk, 2023 Toyota RAV4, black, H0T STUF (Texas).

Artistic Director’s Digest
Hello Choir Fam,
I shared at rehearsal that we don’t quite have a show yet, but I want you to really hear the yet. There is so much potential here for something truly special, and I believe in what we’re building together. It’s going to take all of us giving our best and supporting each other to bring it to life.
Last rehearsal wasn’t our strongest, and that happens in every season. When that happens, I always take time to reflect on what I can do better and what’s in my control. I’ve done some of that thinking already, and I encourage you to do the same. Find one or two things you can improve and commit to them. We’ll get stronger together because of it. I’m really excited for Monday’s workshop. Our clinicians are so ready to work with you, and it’s a great opportunity for us to grow. Please make sure you are on time and ready to go.
A few notes from our last rehearsal:
Na Na Na – This is in a great place. Now let’s start stepping into character. This is our closer, and we want the audience to leave with big smiles on their faces.
Barso Re – I love this for us, and say it with me: key change. Review, review!
Here Comes the Sun – Just give this one a solid review. We’ll come back to it Wednesday.
Dreaming of You – I’m really loving what I’m seeing and hearing. Keep fine tuning.
Always on My Mind – There are some beautiful moments here. Review the text, and I would love a bit more presence from our tenor 2s.
Texas Hold ’Em – Review those smaller choir parts. I think we can all give a little more volume, but it’s looking strong.
Deep in the Heart – Tenor and Bass, please use the guide tracks I posted. I will have updated music with phrasing marked on Monday. Come in solid on pitches and rhythm, and we will shape the rest together. (Click here for guide tracks).
TIP and HTS – We didn’t get to as much of your material this week, and I appreciate your flexibility. Please review your choreography. We will make space for you on Wednesday.
Thank you again for everything you’re giving to this group. We are about to spend a lot of time together in the coming weeks, so let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Be patient, be kind, stay hydrated, wash your hands, and get rest whenever you can.
We’ve got this.
Jennifer
Dream BIG with the Executive Directors!
Hello, fabulous choirmates!
With just two weeks to go, we are rockin’ and rollin’ in HSC Land, and we have several reminders for you during this busy, exciting time. Please take note and mark your calendars as needed.
This afternoon, an entourage of us will gather at Belmont Senior Living in Bellaire for our seasonal serenade. Jennifer has created a beautiful set list of numbers from our show, which this gracious audience is bound to love. Thank you to everyone who said yes to this fun and important opportunity to exemplify our vision.
A link for Shoutouts is right here in this newsletter, so please fill it out for as many of your choirmates as you can. There is no greater feeling than to read the lovely, heartfelt notes of appreciation from the people you’ve been working alongside for all these weeks. These will be presented at dress rehearsal on June 12.
Monday, June 1 is a MANDATORY rehearsal for the full choir! Our special guests, Jacque and Natalie, Broadway-theatre vocal and dance professionals, have been commissioned as clinicians to work with us on parts of our show repertoire. These are the same wonderful folks we visited in studio last summer during our choir trip to New York City—and it was a highlight of that excursion! So please be on time, prepared, and fully present to receive their valuable advice!
Our annual State of the Choir business meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 10, as part of our regular rehearsal. This is a requirement to maintain our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization status with the State of Texas. It will be relatively brief. Since that rehearsal is mandatory, so is your attendance at the SOTC meeting.
Soon, we will be sending out emails to all HSC cast members and patrons providing logistical details for the June 12 rehearsal and June 13 show day. Please be watching for this, read it thoroughly, and print it if you need to.
If you have not done so already, please write to VAN at exec@houstonshowchoir.org stating your full name exactly as it appears on your driver’s license. This is MANDATORY as we need to create a list of all cast and crew members, including the band, for Hobby Center security. You will need to check in with the Security Office on both June 12 and June 13, and your name on their list must match what is on your driver’s license.
Remember to be prepared to pay $20 for parking in the Hobby Center garage on BOTH June 12 and June 13.
If you own a Houston Show Choir member jacket, please bring it with you to dress rehearsal on June 12.
If you collected HSC postcards to promote the show, thank you for inviting people to come see us! We have a limited number remaining, so please take more if you need them. They’re great conversation starters!
Remember to invite all your fans to join us at Birraporetti’s, 500 Louisiana Street, directly after the show on June 13! This will be Dutch treat on the full dinner menu, and their bar staff has created a signature cocktail just for us! We have the entire main floor reserved, so send your fans on over and join them after we move all our things out of the Hobby Center.
Thank you for your part in making Houston Show Choir and our SHOW so special!
Sharing the joy,
Mark & Van
