Movin’ Out (Billy Joel)

Okay, I know I said that the moveout of our storage unit was going to be today, but I hope you saw my FB post to say that today wasn't going to work because the church had events all day long, and we weren't going to be able to move in as such. The great news is that Mark with Morningstar Storage is allowing us to move next Saturday (May 2nd) without charging us extra (I hope I understood that correctly, but if I'm wrong, I'm going to be picketing the storage unit on a daily basis!!).

So, the move will actually occur next Saturday with same details, i.e., bring a dolly if you have one, come at 0800 if you want to get an early start, we'll load the truck up after 0900 once we have access to the truck, and then we'll head over to RMCC to offload the truck into our new storage area. NOTE: Our new storage space is on the opposite side of the loading dock, so steel your girders. That said, you'll get your steps in, and that will be your workout for the day, you'll thank me for it! And for all you wonderful folks who told me that you had commitments today (4/25), the great news is that now you can help out next Saturday, LOL!

If you can help out, please email me (Treasurer@houstonshowchoir.org) or text me (214.636.2326) so that I know how many folks will be able to provide support. If it's just me, it's going to take me all day, and I won't see you Monday because I will be in bed recuperating, so don't let that happen!

Y'all are the best, thanks for any support you can provide!

David

Board Elections

Hello HSC!

As noted in last week’s newsletter, Board elections will occur during rehearsal on Monday, May 18th, and nominations will be open from Saturday, April 25th through Monday, May 11th.

You can nominate as many people as you deem fit for a position, and you can nominate yourself!

Please use this form to submit nominations.

Below is a general timeline of the important election dates:

  • April 25 - Nomination form opens

  • May 11 - Nomination period closes

  • May 18 - Election Speeches and Voting during rehearsal

  • May 23 - Announcement of new board in newsletter

  • May 27 - Live announcement of new board

  • June 11 - New Board Member “Sit-In” Meeting (Will probably be moved due to show week)

  • July 09 - Tentative 1st Board Meeting for newly elected board members

After the nomination period closes, Genevieve or Chasity will reach out to each nominee to let them know of their nomination and see if they wish to move forward with the process. All candidates will also need to speak with the person currently holding the open position to ensure that there is a complete understanding of the skills required, time commitment involved, and general responsibilities of holding a Board position. This will be a great time to ask any clarifying questions to determine if you wish to be placed on the ballot.

For any questions, please contact Genevieve via email at President@HoustonShowChoir.org.

Thank you!

Your 2026 Election Committee

Dream BIG with the Executive Directors!

Happy weekend, Choirmates!

As of this writing, we have now sold 108 tickets to From Texas, With Love! Every one of those sales represents a fan of Houston Show Choir--perhaps even a personal fan of YOU! That's why we celebrate every sold ticket. That's why we keep track and report to you. These are our people, and we are theirs! We all have a lot to focus on both in and out of the choir, because we all have busy lives. And through it all, just keep some amount of your focus on seeing Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center absolutely filled to the rafters with our patrons. That's why we do what we do, after all. Thank you for all you are doing to make this show a resounding success!

Thank you, too, for your patience as we shift gears to align with Resurrection's availability for us to move into our new storage areas. Please bear with us as David works with our landlord and our storage unit to iron out the details of when this can happen, and please be ready to help with the move even if you can spare only part of the time.

On a similar note, if you have not already done so, please sign up to assist with riser setup and dismantling. This is a very big job and we are going to need as many of you as possible. There is something to do for all levels of strength and skill. The more help we have, the faster it will go.

We will see some of you tonight at the social, everyone Monday night for a full three-hour HSC rehearsal, and HTS and TIP only on Wednesday night. Let's enter this last week of April with a new surge of excitement as our show continues to develop into the masterpiece we know it will be!

We are using all our media channels to promote the show; however, there is nothing more effective than a personal invitation from you as a performer in this show! So let's get out there and tell the world about it!

  1. “Like” and share every social media post about Houston Show Choir on your own profile.

  2. Personally invite your family and friends to come see you in the show.

  3. Show off your HSC swag whenever and wherever possible. It’s a conversation starter!

  4. Practice on your own, and envision that full house at Hobby Center cheering for us on June 13.

  5. Make it easy for your fans to buy tickets by sharing the Hobby Center ticketing page with them.

Thank you for your beautiful part in this choir, for making this show a rousing success, and for furthering our vision of...

Sharing the joy,

Mark & Van

From Texas, With Love Tickets now on sale!

Abi, our Director of Marketing, has prepared this lovely official flyer to share on your social media. We encourage you to post at least once a month leading up to the show. So there isn’t an influx of posting, Abi recommends posting on the following days:

  • Baritones post on Monday/Tuesday

  • Altos post on Wednesday/Thursday

  • Sopranos post on Friday/Saturday

When you post be sure to include the LINK to buy tickets—the less work someone has to do when there is a call to action, the more likely they are to complete the action. Please reach out to Abi if you have any questions!

Pro-tip from Abi: Word of mouth and direct invites go a loooooong way. Text this to your friends and family with a heartfelt invite with a link.
