As detailed in the article from David below, we are seeking volunteers to help us move our storage unit contents from Morningstar Storage, 4495 Katy Fwy, to the church next Saturday, April 25th. If you are willing to help out (please, please), contact David via email (treasurer@houstonshowchoir.org) or a text (214-636-2326) with your name and when you will be able to help out (some people might not be able to support the entire time).
We’ll meet at the storage unit at 0900 next Saturday. If anybody wants to come earlier, David will be there at 0800 to start staging items for the load up. We could also use another dolly/hand truck to make things go faster with the music file cabinets.
If you have any questions or need more info, please let David know. And thank you for any support you can provide, which definitely will help share the joy of music!

Board of Directors
Hello Choir Family!
We have board elections coming up at the end of this season. Voting will happen in one month from today, Monday, May 18th, during rehearsal.
Our Board of Directors is an incredible group of people who help to keep HSC running smoothly, help finance our incredible opportunities (hello, Hobby Center!), and who always keep the mission and vision of the organization at the forefront of their minds. Every Board Member wears multiple hats, volunteering their time and talents (some, but not all as performing members), and not only in meetings, but around the clock as leaders, creatives, professionals, and heartfelt representatives. Each role on the board performs a critical function for HSC, and it is important that the person who fills the role is suited to, and prepared to fulfill, the duties and responsibilities of that role.
The first step in the election process will be to nominate people you feel could serve in any of the positions described in the document linked here. This could be you, and you can nominate yourself! Please take a moment and read through the descriptions on each position that is open for this year’s election, and brainstorm who could fit into each role.
HSC Board of Directors - Descriptions
Nominations will be open from April 25th to May 11th. Please submit your nominations within this time frame.
Below is a general timeline of the important election dates:
April 25 - Nomination form opens
May 11 - Nomination period closes
May 18 - Election Speeches and Voting during rehearsal
May 23 - Announcement of new board in newsletter
May 27 - Live announcement of new board
June 11 - New Board Member “Sit-In” Meeting (Will probably be moved due to show week)
July 09 - Tentative 1st Board Meeting for newly elected board members
After the nomination period closes, Genevieve or Chasity will reach out to each nominee to let them know of their nomination and see if they wish to move forward with the process. All candidates will also need to speak with the person currently holding the open position to ensure that there is a complete understanding of the skills required, time commitment involved, and general responsibilities of holding a Board position. This will be a great time to ask any clarifying questions to determine if you wish to be placed on the ballot.
For any questions, please contact Genevieve via email at President@HoustonShowChoir.org.
Thank you!

Moving for the Future (Help Us Save Money)
As mentioned during last Monday’s rehearsal, our rental unit where we store our music, props, equipment, etc., has continued raising our rent and has become unaffordable. However, the church has come to our rescue and will provide us space; this will save us about 40% monthly. We will also have the bonus of having convenient access to the items, woo-hoo.
As such, we are seeking volunteers to help us move the contents from Morningstar Storage, 4495 Katy Fwy, to the church next Saturday, April 25th. We will have access to their moving truck at about 9:15am, so we are looking for folks to move items from the unit, load the truck, and then unload the items at the church, and place them in the storage room. If we have enough volunteers, we hope to be done by about noon, more than plenty of time to go home, rest and freshen up for the social that night.
If you are willing to help out (please, please), just let me know that you’re coming. Since I’m old school, no Google form, LOL, just send me an email (treasurer@houstonshowchoir.org) or a text (214-636-2326) with your name and when you will be able to help out (some people might not be able to support the entire time).
We’ll meet at the storage unit at 0900 next Saturday. If anybody wants to come earlier, I’ll be there at 0800 to start staging items for the load up. We could also use another dolly/hand truck to make things go faster with the music file cabinets.
If you have any questions or need more info, please let me know. And thank you for any support you can provide, which definitely will help share the joy of music!

Artistic Director’s Digest
Hi everyone!
We’re getting to that point in the season where everything starts coming together. By now, you should feel comfortable with all the vocals. If there are any sections you’re still unsure about, please take time to review and solidify them.
Choreography is just starting to settle in. By the end of this week, we should know all the choreo except for Barso Re, which will be taught on May 4. Starting in May, I’ll aim to run each number at least once during rehearsal. That means we won’t have much time to reteach material, so please practice any choreography you’re struggling with ahead of time.
Here are a few important reminders:
This Monday: We’ll be learning Dreaming of You choreography. Attendance is very important—please make every effort to be there, as learning it on your own won’t be as effective.
June 1: Mandatory rehearsal (we’ll be holding a workshop).
Tech week: Rehearsals are Mandatory for tech week (June 08, 10, and 12). Triple check your calendar
Absences: Keep track of your absences. If you reach 5, you’ll be notified that you’re at risk of being dropped from the show.
Extra rehearsals: Watch for additional choreography rehearsals. Attending one of these can count in place of an absence.
Costumes:
We’ll be reusing last season’s formal costumes, so no need to buy anything new.
If your group wants to coordinate further, I’m open to that discussion.
There will be no costume rehearsal before tech week—have everything ready in advance.
Order early, try it on, and move in it to make sure it’s comfortable and functional.
Double-check fit, length, and coverage. We’ve received audience feedback about this in the past.
Section leaders will reach out if adjustments are needed—best to avoid that if possible.
Tights are not a substitute for pants.
Here’s the costume guideline.
For those interested, here is the program order. Let me know if you have any questions!
I am so excited for this show. You all are doing a fantastic job. Keep it up! And Sell those tickets!
Thank you for the music,
Jennifer
Dream BIG with the Executive Directors!
Hello, hello, Choirmates!
If you thought things around here were already pretty exciting, buckle your seatbelts: Soon, we will begin rehearsing on our RISERS!
I case you didn't know, HSC has its own set of custom-made dance risers, complete with steps and guardrails. They are stored conveniently in the Activities Building, which means that in a couple of weeks, we will move the main part of rehearsals into that space.
Because the Activities Building is used by others when we are not on schedule, we need to move the risers out of and back into storage for each rehearsal. This is where you come in! We will need the help of as many members as possible BEFORE AND AFTER rehearsal each week to set up, dismantle, and re-store the risers. Fortunately, we have quite a few members who are familiar with this process and can help newer members learn how to do this important job safely and efficiently. Please consider any flexibility in your schedule to arrive early and stay late, and complete this form to let us know!
We are using all our media channels to promote the show; however, there is nothing more effective than a personal invitation from you as a performer in this show! So let's get out there and tell the world about it!
“Like” and share every social media post about Houston Show Choir on your own profile.
Personally invite your family and friends to come see you in the show.
Show off your HSC swag whenever and wherever possible. It’s a conversation starter!
Practice on your own, and envision that full house at Hobby Center cheering for us on June 13.
Make it easy for your fans to buy tickets by sharing the Hobby Center ticketing page with them.
Thank you for your beautiful part in this choir, for making this show a rousing success, and for furthering our vision of...
Sharing the joy,
Mark & Van

Altos post on Wednesday/Thursday

When you post be sure to include the LINK to buy tickets—the less work someone has to do when there is a call to action, the more likely they are to complete the action. Please reach out to Abi if you have any questions!
Pro-tip from Abi: Word of mouth and direct invites go a loooooong way. Text this to your friends and family with a heartfelt invite with a link.

This equates to 6 total absences during this season.

When you are going to be absent, you need to notify your Section Leader and Artistic Director.
Also note that you are marked Tardy if you join rehearsal after 6:45PM, regardless of the reason.
After your 3rd Absence you may be asked to test your knowledge of the music and/or choreography.
