Artistic Director’s Digest

Hello all,

I hope your weekend is off to a good start! It was so great seeing you this past week. Choreo rehearsals have officially begun, and we are so pleased with the work our choreographers are doing. As we continue moving forward, I’d love for you to really make use of your PPDs. A few reminders on how to practice efficiently are below:

  1. Listening to your part counts as practicing. Your body will remember more than you think. Pick a song and listen once or twice during your commute, focusing on whatever we’re rehearsing that week.

  2. You don’t need to sing through an entire song every time. That can lead to vocal fatigue. Instead, isolate a section you’re struggling with and spend about 15 minutes really working it.

  3. Consistency matters. Practicing 10 minutes a day is better than 60 minutes once a week — but 60 minutes once a week is still better than not practicing at all.

  4. If it doesn’t click right away, that’s okay. Progress over perfection.

  5. Numbers 2–4 apply to choreo as well and to some extent so does number 1.

That being said, please prioritize memorization for Here Comes the SunRun, and Kiss Me. These should be memorized by next Monday so you can start feeling confident adding choreography.

Thank you for the work you put in each week. It truly brings Alana and me so much joy to make music with this organization. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and see you Monday!

Thank you for the music,

Jennifer

Dream BIG with the Executive Directors!

Greetings, Choirmates!

This weekend, our calendars will turn to a new month—a month in which we will March onward into sharpening our beautiful Texas repertoire into a work of art for our Hobby Center audience!

We will also March ahead by opening ticket sales to our database and the general public, so until then, you still have time to choose the very best seats for your fans. Act quickly to take advantage of this! Just go to our Hobby Center ticketing page, and use the code HSCMEMBER.

Then once we open ticket sales fully, March forth to let the world know you want them to come see you at the Hobby Center on June 13. People love to be invited, so get ready to spread the good word.

As we enter our second month of the spring season, we’re off to an excellent start! Thanks for your part in that and let’s keep our momentum strong!

Sharing the joy,

Mark & Van
