Encore is a vocal-forward performance ensemble focusing on a select repertoire with low-intensity movement. Similar to HSC-HTS and HSC-TIP, the HSC-Encore performance track offers a further selection of a1 or a2 placement as described below.
HSC-Encore a1 (3 songs: 2 Encore songs + Why We Sing)
HSC-Encore a2 (8 songs: 6 HSC songs + 2 Encore Songs + Why We Sing)

Current choir members are welcome to join, and no audition is required for placement in Encore. If you’re interested, simply send Jennifer an email.

We will be meeting TOMORROW, Sunday, August 2nd, at 10:00am to organize the HSC storeroom at the RMCC Activities Building.
Areas for which we’ll need support:
Take down existing wall hardware which used to hold clothing rods
Put together shelving units (very easy, no tools necessary)
Segregate items by categories
Once we’ve organized everything, return items into bins or onto shelves
An important task: Label bins/shelves/items so that everyone can see what the item is and, more importantly, return the item back to where it belongs when they are done using it.
There is a variety of tasks, so anyone can do these activities. Please send an email to David (treasurer@houstonshowchoir.org) to let him know that you are in!

Returning members do not need to complete a vocal audition unless you would like to audition into HTS/TIP. If you would like to sign up for a vocal audition, you have the opportunity to do so on the audition sign-up form here.
Vocal auditions will take place on Monday, August 03 and Wednesday, August 05 from 5:30-8:30pm. The vocal audition duration is 7 minutes.
All singers will be taken through a vocal warm up and then will sing about 30 seconds of a song of your choosing. Using a backing track is highly recommended. Then, to audition into HTS or TIP, you will prepare and sing your preferred voice part on one of two pieces. Your preferred voice part will be muted for the audition but the other voice parts will be audible. Audition materials for small ensemble placement (including sheet music, practice track for voice parts, and practice tracks without preferred voice parts) will be emailed to you a week before auditions.

Dance auditions will take place on Saturday, August 08 and Sunday, August 09 at 12:00pm.
The first hour of the session covers basic level of choreographed movement that HSC uses, and the second, optional hour will cover more advanced levels of choreography and will be required attendance for candidates who wish to be considered for ensemble tracks (HSC-HTS or HSC-TIP).

The Member Retreat for the Fall 2026 season will take place on Saturday, August 22 from 12:00-5:00pm, directly following New Member Orientation (which takes place from 11:30am-12:00pm). Let’s get to know new members and have fun all together! More details to come!

Hello all,
Can you believe it’s almost time for a new season? I hope you’ve all had a restful and well-deserved break!
We have a few exciting updates to share as we head into this season:
First, Chloe will not be returning as our accompanist this season. She has some wonderful opportunities ahead with even more performances, and we are so grateful for the time and talent she shared with us over the past couple of seasons. We’re excited to welcome a new lead accompanist who will be part of a team supporting us during rehearsals.
Second, we’re introducing a new ensemble: Encore! This group is designed for singers who prefer not to dance and will be directed by Jenson Wall. Encore will perform in our end-of-season show and rehearse on Monday evenings before full HSC rehearsals. Current choir members are welcome to join, and no audition is required for placement in Encore. If you’re interested, simply send me an email and I’ll add you to the roster.
Additionally, if you know anyone who would be a great fit for our choirs, please feel free to share our audition information. I’m also happy to schedule individual auditions for those who cannot attend the upcoming date.
One final update: we’ve made a change to our opener. We will no longer be performing “Pure Imagination” and will instead kick off the show with “Another Day of Sun.”

Our fall season is about to be upon us!
You've read and heard about our new ensemble, Encore. You know about auditions beginning Monday. You've seen the repertoire and selections for standalone performances. With all that being said, we hope you're as excited as we are about all being together again and welcoming our new members!

Please no Texting or Answering your Phone during rehearsals.
Step out if there is a need to use your phone.
Timeliness
Be on time to rehearsals and coming back from rehearsal breaks

***All of these 3 simple rules helps to maintain a JOYFUL ENVIRONMENT

You must attend 70% of rehearsals before you risk being asked to step down from the show.
This equates to 6 total absences during this season.
If you already know of any pre-planned absences after reviewing the calendar, please notify your Section Leader ASAP so that they can take note of the future absence.
When you are going to be absent, you need to notify your Section Leader and Artistic Director.
Also note that you are marked Tardy if you join rehearsal after 6:45PM, regardless of the reason.
After your 3rd Absence you may be asked to test your knowledge of the music and/or choreography.
