Artistic Director’s Digest
Hello all,
Rehearsals are well underway, and we have made great progress! Thank you so much for all of the work you are putting in. I’m using this issue to answer a few frequently asked questions about solo auditions.
Where Are You Christmas?
You may audition as a soloist or as a group. If you are interested in auditioning as a group, you will be responsible for putting your own group together. You will use the track provided in the solo audition documents.
Cabaret Group Auditions
If you would like to audition for a song as a group, feel free to post in the Facebook group or ask friends to sing with you. You are welcome to put your own group together!
Solo Tracks
The provided tracks are there as a guide. Singers are encouraged to sing in a key that is comfortable for them, and the track or arrangement you choose is completely up to you. I simply want the song to be included in the show, so have fun with it and make it your own!
One thing to keep in mind when choosing an arrangement: we would love to use a live band whenever possible. If having a live band is important to you, please make sure you can locate the arrangement you choose, including any available instrumental parts, so we can determine whether it is feasible for the band to play.
Rehearsal Reminder
There is now a Wednesday, September 30 rehearsal on the calendar. This rehearsal will take the place of an absence, so be sure to keep track of your attendance.
That’s all from me for now! Thank you for the music, and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
Jennifer
Dream BIG with the Executive Directors!
Greetings, Choirmates!
Can you believe that we've been rehearsing for SIX WEEKS already?! And this coming Tuesday, September 22, is officially the first day of fall. As the old adage goes, "Time flies when you're having fun," and it certainly appears that we're doing just that in HSC Land. As if learning our repertoire and preparing for solo auditions aren't fun enough, we had our first social of the season last weekend and today (Saturday), 25 of us will enjoy a wine-tasting event at Total Wine & More. As the season rocks along, there will be more socials, which provide great opportunities for us to get to know each other.
The fall season also provides several opportunities to perform in the community aside from our October 30 cabaret and our December 12 concerts. We will provide information about these as they develop. Participation is always encouraged and always optional; however, these community performances ("gigs") provide wonderful opportunities for us to present portions of our repertoire to smaller audiences, thus fulfilling an important element of our vision ("...to share the joy of music throughout Greater Houston and beyond"), creating recognition around the city, and gaining invaluable on-stage experience. The more we rehearse, the more we perform, the better we are. So when the call for performers comes out, please say yes if at all possible.
Please also remember to mark your calendars with any deadlines or events you read about here in the newsletter and/or on Facebook, observe all the tenets of your membership agreement including and not limited to the Three Ts and Zero Tolerance, and rehearse on your own so you'll be as prepared as possible when you arrive on Monday nights. And especially, please do your part to promote our show. You have fans out there in the world and they want to see you perform!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and we look forward to seeing you Monday night!
Sharing the joy,
Mark & Van
