Dough Re Mi – The Sound of Music
The first word of the song is really “Do,” and as you know, I usually swap that word out with Due; however this one is pronounced “Doh,” so what else could I do but go with it?! 😊
Today is our choir retreat! I have no idea if I’m going to have a chance to throw myself at your feet and plead with you to pay your dues – if I don’t, at least you have the mental image of that now, so let’s consider that activity done.
Please use the invoice that was generated for you to make your payment. Dues of $75 (or $25 for Encore-only members) are due by the third rehearsal (September 9th). Or you can pay via Zelle using the QR code below.
You also have the Poppin Popcorn Fundraiser to have others pay your dues for you.
If you need to make alternate arrangements with me, just let me know by emailing treasurer@houstonshowchoir.org.

Welcome Back, Choir Fam!
It's our first official day back, and Alana and I couldn't be more excited to kick off another HSC season with you at today's retreat! We hope you've all had a restful break and are ready to dive into Movies and Mistletoe.
New This Season: Accompanists
We'll have several accompanists joining us for rehearsals this year. Cloud Wang will be our lead accompanist. Since accompanists often juggle multiple gigs, though, we'll occasionally have someone stepping in for her (you can find Cloud's bio below!). For our very first rehearsal, we're delighted to welcome Ben Childress, who will be subbing in for Cloud. Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our accompanists, and to all our new members joining us this season!
New This Season: Ensemble Encore
This season also marks the launch of our new ensemble: Encore! Encore will rehearse from 5:30–6:15pm, so come a little early and enjoy Tea Time after Encore rehearsal and before the full choir rehearsal begins.
As we kick off this new season: have fun, practice, and give yourself, and each other, plenty of grace!
See you all soon!
Jennifer
Introducing our Lead Accompanist: Cloud Wang
A native of Taiwan, Cloud Wang is a versatile multi-instrumentalist whose musical expertise spans the piano, pipe organ, percussion, handbells, and carillon. In 2010, she was awarded a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where she majored in jazz vibraphone and steel drum performance. That same year, she won second prize in the vibraphone category at the Italy Percussion Competition in Fermo, Italy.
Cloud’s musical journey began in her childhood, inspired by watching Japanese dramas. She would learn the theme songs by ear and play them on the piano. This early passion blossomed into a love for a wide variety of genres, with a particular affinity for pop music, musical theater, Latin jazz, smooth jazz, upbeat and groove dance music.
Throughout her career, Cloud has been deeply involved in a diverse array of musical ensembles. Her experience includes serving as an accompanist since the third grade, accompanying a friend’s solo contest, and participating in a middle school men’s choir. In high school piano, she was accompanist for friends’ solos. She has also performed with church praise bands, concert bands, percussion ensemble, steel bands, reggae bands, handbell choirs, and musical theater pits. During her time at Berklee, she led her own Caribbean band and jazz ensemble. To date, she has collaborated with hundreds of musicians across the globe.
Currently, Cloud is an active professional musician based in the Houston area, where she works as a piano accompanist and pit musician for various school districts. She also serves churches as organist, handbell tree soloist, and percussionist. Her talent has taken her to stages around the world, with performances across the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, Italy, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Outside of her musical career, Cloud loves spending time with her boyfriend Patric, traveling, cooking, and exploring new restaurants.
Cloud is absolutely thrilled to join the Houston Show Choir this season. She and her piano bench are looking forward to meeting everyone soon very soon!!!
